Who can skydive in Australia

Requirements

Age:

Must be at least 16 years old. All minors will need parental or guardian consent.

Weight:

115kg is the maximum weight allowed to skydive in Australia.

Health:

No need to be an athlete, the most important requirement is the ability to lift your legs for landing.

How it works

Your skydive step by step

After check-in, you’ll be assigned a flight number and introduced to your instructor. These are the true gurus of the sky, with thousands of jumps under their belts and qualified by the Australian Parachute Federation. Safety briefing, harness on, checks complete…you’re ready to board the plane.

Flight to altitude

As the plane climbs, so does your heart rate. 15,000 feet of pure anticipation while enjoying stunning views. When that door slides open, you’ll realise the true meaning of ‘living on the edge.’ It’s not just a saying anymore – it’s your reality for the next heart-pounding minutes.

Freefall

You’re perched at the edge of the plane. Then, in a heartbeat, you’re flying, feeling more alive and free than you ever thought possible. For up to 60 thrilling seconds, you’re experiencing the best adrenaline rush on the planet, with the best views in Australia. Don’t forget to smile – our instructors and camera flyers can capture every moment on video and photos.

Parachute flight

After the rush of freefall, your parachute opens and serenity takes over. For 5-7 minutes, you’ll glide peacefully above the landscape. If you are feeling adventurous ask your instructor if you can take the reins and steer the parachute yourself.

Landing

Brace yourself for the final act – the landing. It’s the part that makes rookies nervous, but our seasoned pros handle it with finesse. Once grounded, your adventure concludes with a rush of accomplishment. It’s time to show off your skydive certificate!

The free fall was clearly too short. I suspect we jumped out of the plane way too early. The video recordings are too expensive. You pay $160 for a video with a handheld camera and to get another shot from a different perspective you have to pay another $120. From 95kg you have to pay an extra $50, but there is no difference from the dishes or anything. All in all, still a great experience!

Skydiving FAQs

Discover everything you need to know about skydiving in Australia

Skydiving doesn’t give you that sudden “stomach drop” feeling associated with roller coasters. When you exit the aircraft, you immediately encounter air resistance. This quickly transitions into a stable fall at terminal velocity. The sensation is more like floating on a cushion of air rather than plummeting downward.

  • Wear comfy clothes and dress for the weather on the day, it will be a little cooler at 15,000 feet.
  • It’s ok if you wear contact lenses. Same with glasses, we have special oversize goggles.
  • Wear secure footwear that’s not going to fall off, no flip flops or thongs.

While skydiving does involve some risks, it’s become remarkably safer over the last 50 years thanks to improved technology, training, and regulations. At SKYONE, safety is our top priority. We use cutting-edge equipment, provide thorough training, and strictly follow industry best practices.

Our skydiving gear has a main parachute, a backup parachute (called a reserve), and a special device (AAD) that opens the reserve automatically if needed. If the main parachute has a problem, your instructor will open the reserve one. Even if the highly unlikely scenario that your instructor cannot operate the handles, the AAD will automatically trigger the reserve parachute to deploy.

At SKYONE, we don’t just meet the standard – we soar above it! Our skydiving instructors are gurus of the sky:

  • We require double the experience mandated by the Australian Parachute Federation.
  • Before even starting tandem instructor training, our staff must have 800-1,000 jumps under their belt.
  • Most of our team members have over 5,000 skydives and years of tandem skydiving experience.

We have return bus transfers to some of our skydiving locations. Check details on our location web pages.

Photos and video packages can be purchased as extras, either at time of booking or when you arrive at the dropzone for your check-in

Only licensed skydivers with over 100 jumps can operate cameras in freefall. This rule comes from the Australian Parachute Federation and is all about safety. Cameras can get tangled in gear or make it hard to reach important handles. Only our trained instructors can use cameras safely while skydiving.

You can still get great photos and videos of your jump. We offer photo and video packages at all our drop zones. These are a safe way to remember your amazing skydive. If you come with friends or family, they can also film you getting on the plane and landing with your parachute from the ground.
